Kitchener City Council has approved a four-tower high-rise condo project on the site of the former Howard Johnson Hotel on Weber Street East.
The project includes 570 residential units and about 14,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
The Record reports, councillors gave the green light to the project at a committee meeting on Monday.
The city had approved zoning changes to allow the project to proceed provided certain conditions were met.
This includes an assurance from the developer of environmental soundness, a detailed noise study – given its proximity to Highway 8 and upgrades to sanitary services in the area.
All three of those conditions have been met.
The Howard Johnson Hotel was demolished this summer to allow for the new development.
