Security guard at Canada Post depot in Kitchener tests positive for COVID-19

A security guard at the Canada Post Distribution Centre in Kitchener has tested positive for COVID-19.

Canada Post said it was notified by the affected worker's employer – a security company. 

The guard last worked at the Trillium Drive depot on May 8, and at the time, they weren't showing any symptoms.

They are now self-isolating, and it's believed transmission occurred outside of the workplace. 

While the situation is consdered low-risk by health officials, a deep cleaning of the facility will be completed Tuesday night. 

“We continue to keep [employees] informed, while stressing the importance of following physical-distancing protocols within the facility and conducting proper hand hygiene,” said Canada Post in an e-mail statement.

In regards to handling mail during the pandemic, “The World Health Organization and Public Health Agency of Canada have assured us it is safe to handle mail, as there is a low risk of spread from products or packaging.”
