Friday through to Sunday, you may see military vehicle traffic around the region.
Although, the soldiers will carry firearms for their training, Captain Andrew Kroetsch, Officer Commanding, Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada, says they will not be loaded.
“The soldiers will have their rifles with them throughout the weekend. They're not loaded or anything like that, they don't have the ammunition with them. They will be in full uniform with all their equipment on practicing the drills they need to operate the mortars.”
The soldiers will practice convoy movement and dry, meaning no ammunition, mortar drills at designated, pre-authorized locations.
If you see military vehicles on city streets, be sure to maintain a safe distance at all times and use extra caution.
Kroetsch says, if you see soldiers while you are out around the region this weekend, you are encouraged to approach them and ask questions.
“The soliders will be more than happy to explain the type of training they are doing, and what they're doing and why they're doing it. That interaction with the public is great for the soldiers.”
The training will be mostly around the Kitchener Armouries, at 350 East Avenue, Kitchener.
