Glenn Bauman sentenced to life in prison

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

A local man convicted of first degree murder has now been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

46-year old Glenn Bauman was found guilty in July in the killings, eight years ago, of his common-law wife Linda Daniel and her 13-year old daughter Cheyenne in Wellesley Township.

Five victim impact statements were presented to the court including one from Anthony Pope, the father of 13-year-old Cheyenne, who says he has been trying to find it in his heart to forgive, but can't. He added Cheyenne was the only perfect thing in his life, and he will never have the opportunity to watch her grow or take her to Trinidad to meet her family there.

Murray Daniel, the brother of Linda, looked at Bauman and said “you show no remorse at all, but I still pray for you everyday.” His son Adam also wrote a statement saying he works in the oil industry, and he will never look at a steel barrel the same way again.

Bauman was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder on July 12, 2019 after the court found he killed then burned the bodies of Linda and Cheyenne in steel barrels in the backyard of their home in Wellesley in 2011.

Outside the courthouse criminal defence lawyer Christopher Hicks said Bauman still maintains his innocence.

“His position is still, that he is not guilty,” said Hicks. “He is not saying anything to protect that position, rather than say something that might be misunderstood.”

It is possible Bauman could file for an appeal.

“It was a long and difficult trial and there were controversial issues, some of which may be fertile grounds for appeal, we will talk to him about that,” said Hicks.

Bauman's life sentence is to run concurrently after the court found he was ineligible for a consecutive sentence, because the section of the Criminal Code allowing consecutive sentences did not come into effect until a few months after the deaths of Linda and Cheyenne in 2011.
