Humane Society to provide interim animal protection services

By Blair Adams

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth has been named one of the affiliates that will be responsible for interim animal protection services in the province.

The provincial government's agreement with the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) to enforce animal cruelty legislation ended on June 28.

“Our organization remains committed to the animals in our communities and we are thrilled to work alongside the Solicitor General's office to provide interim animal protection services,” Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth Executive Director, Kathrin Delutis said in a release.

The province plans to transition to a new animal protection model by January 2020.

During the interim period, the local humane society will add Cambridge, North Dumfries and Huron County to its service area.

If you have concerns about animal cruelty, abandonment or neglect, you can call the province’s new 24/7 reporting hotline at 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625), or contact KWSPHS directly at 519-745-5615.
