Cambridge rocket has touched down at new home (2 photos)

By Blair Adams

The rocket ship that stood out in front of the Satellite Motel on Hespeler Road in Cambridge for 50 plus years is now at its new home.

It was purchased a few weeks ago by Jim McLaughlin.

The rocket is now standing tall in front of his business, ACE Tire and Auto on Samuelson Street.

It was moved from the Satellite over the weekend.

The motel is coming down to make way for affordable housing.

KitchenerToday.com spoke to McLaughlin a few weeks ago, after learning he had purchased the rocket.

He has a personal connection to the landmark, as his father helped build it.

“My father worked at Irving Steel back in the day … Anytime we drove past it when he was alive, he was quite proud to let me know he helped build the rocket,” explained McLaughlin.

He would not disclose what he paid for the rocket, but said he would have “several thousand dollars” invested by the time it was into the ground at ACE Tire and Auto.
