An incident in Guelph has provincial police asking – “who brings meth to court?”
Constable Joshua Cunningham with Wellington County OPP says it happened on Wednesday at the courthouse on Wyndham Street.
“Court staff stopped a male that had a large backpack and searched him for security purposes.. and found him with a quantity of methamphetamine.”
They won’t say how much he had on him – but Cunningham says the 44-year-old was ultimately arrested, and will now appear back in court to face a charge of possession of meth.
Cunningham says this just goes to show, there really is a first time for everything.
“This is the first time I’ve ever heard of someone being charged for possession of drugs while in a court house.. I can’t say it’s never happened before, but it’s definitely unusual. I think everyone knows how dangerous, and serious meth is… so I’ll just reiterate – don’t do meth.”
An OPP spokesman says Leslie Gagnon of Guelph is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 27, “hopefully without meth. this time”.
