Emergency Preparedness Week focuses on preparing and planning in wake of Ottawa and Quebec floods

As Ottawa and many parts of Quebec try to dry out from recent flooding, our local emergency crews want to make sure we are prepared.
This week marks Emergency Preparedness Week across our country.
Waterloo Fire Chief Richard Hepditch says it’s important for your family to create a survival kit in case something like flooding or other natural disasters take place in your area.
“Really the starting point is an awareness about how weather and major events can effect us and it starts with an understanding of that leading to preparing a family emergency survival kit.”
This year’s theme highlights the importance of knowing the risks, making a plan, and packing an emergency kit but specifically looks at the need to keep up to date on current conditions, like the weather, that might impact you.
In the event of an emergency, police and Public Safety Canada say residents should be prepared to take care of themselves for at least 72 hours.
