Ground has been broken for the new GO bus maintenance and storage facility on Shirley Avenue in Kitchener.
Kitchener-Centre MPP Daiene Vernile tells 570 NEWS, the new building will be located directly next to the Kitchener GO train layover facility.
“We’re going to be able to park 20 buses, single and double-decker, and do all of the maintenance and fueling here on site. It’s going to save time and money,” said Vernile. ”Currently, buses are having to drive into Kitchener/Waterloo from the Georgetown area and begin their route here. But if they’re housed here overnight, it’s going to save time and gas and be more efficient.”
The province has allocated $16 Million for the facility, which is expected to be open by spring 2018.
