Victoria/King reopening following LRT work

A big relief is coming on Wednesday for motorists in downtown Kitchener.
Following months of LRT construction, Victoria is reopening between Joseph and Weber.
With the wrap up of construction, the intersections of Victoria at King and Victoria at Charles will also be reopening to traffic along with a stretch of King between Victoria and Francis.
Lauren McGirr with GrandLinq says the reopening will relieve the large amount of congestion in the area.
“When we reopen Victoria, that will reopen that movement from Weber straight to King. People will be able to get across King, which is four full lanes of traffic. I think that will help alleviate some congestion that people have felt in the downtown core.”
GrandLinq says they have made great progress throughout the summer months and work will now move into the fall, with construction progressing in all areas of the alignment.
That progress means work along Charles from Victoria to Benton is nearing completion and is expected to open to two-way traffic by Friday.
Meantime, another big ION project is wrapping up in Waterloo Region.
GrandLinq says that the Highway 85 at Northfield northbound and southbound off-ramps along with the southbound on-ramps in Waterloo are reopening this Friday following 18 months of ION work.
