Housing starts in Waterloo Region down slightly in April

A slight decline in new home construction activity in Waterloo Region last month.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says housing starts in April totalled just under 2,800, off by about 100 units from March.

CMHC Senior Market Analyst Erica McLerie says, while apartment starts were up last month, that figure was “more than offset by the decreasing trend for single-detached homes and townhomes.”

She adds, “starts are trending at a level consistent with demographic demand”.
