Waterloo to look at online voting again

Waterloo is taking another look at online voting.

The Record reports city staff are reviewing it again after the previous city council voted against online voting in the last municipal election.

City Clerk, Olga Smith tells the paper that staff will consult with other municipalities that have conducted voting online.

An earlier staff report concluded that based on a study of other cities in the province, there was no link between online voting and voter turnout.

The cost of reviewing the idea is within the city budget, but it would take an estimated $175,000 to implement internet voting.
