‘Several’ bystanders exposed to bear spray, two people stabbed in Uptown Waterloo: police

An investigation was underway early Tuesday morning after reports of a stabbing in Uptown Waterloo.
A social media post by police around 2:00 a.m. had warned of a heavy police presence in the King Street North and Princess Street West area of Waterloo, just south of Bridgeport Road East.
There were reports by police that a man had been sent to hospital and “several others” were treated after being sprayed with a noxious substance.
By 9:30 a.m., police said they had cleared Uptown Waterloo and were able to provide more details on the case.
Police now say two groups were involved in the alleged incident, that happened just before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.
A youth was seriously hurt with multiple stab wounds and sprayed with bear spray. Police said his injuries are non-life-threatening.
“Several bystanders suffered minor injuries after being exposed to the bear spray and were treated at the scene by Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services,” said police.
A second person, described only as “male” was also sent to hospital with minor injuries involving a knife. Police believed he was also involved in the reported incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
