Book on India’s partition wins $5,000 prize

NEW YORK, N.Y. – A book on the partition of India in 1947 and its fatal consequences has won a $5,000 prize.
Nisid Hajari’s “Midnight’s Furies: The Deadly Legacy of India’s Partition” is the 17th annual recipient of the William E. Colby Award, given to first-time writers for a work of fiction or non-fiction about “military history, intelligence operations, or international affairs.” The Colby award, announced Wednesday, is administered by Norwich University and the Colby Symposium and is named for the late ambassador and CIA director William E. Colby. Previous winners include Dexter Filkins and Karl Marlantes.
