Dying with Dignity Canada supporters rallied today at Kitchener City Hall

It was the National Day of Action and Solidarity for Dying with Dignity Canada.
Supporters rallied in front of Kitchener City Hall to raise their voices about physician assisted death.
Grand River Chapter Coordinator Angel Paterson tells 570 news that they want people to know that there is no legislation in place.
“We want the right to have that choice and we want people to be aware that despite the legislation being struck down, we don’t have new legislation in place and it’s important that we talk to the government and make it known, make it an issue.”
On February 6th, 2015, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the decades-old prohibition of physician assisted dying is against the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The federal and provincial governments were given one-year to implement a plan to legislate assisted dying but so far only Quebec has put one in motion.
Paterson adds that Quebec is leading the way for every province to move in the same direction.
“It’s wonderful to see that in Quebec, it’s really an important step for them and is leading the way for the rest of Canada. we’re really hoping that people take that as a sign that it’s the way we are moving and to get on board with it.”
The Supreme Court’s decision in Carter vs. Canada is set to come into effect in three months.
