Woman gets suspended sentence for fatal crash at Costco store in London

A 66-year-old woman who reversed her car into the front entrance of a London Costco store, killing a six-year-old girl and leading to the death of her unborn sister has been handed a suspended sentence and three years probation.

Ruth Burger is also banned from driving for five years and must complete the maximum allowable 240 hours of community service.

Burger was convicted earlier this year of two counts each of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm in the accident that killed of Addison Hall and seriously injured her pregnant mother and sister.

Danah McKinnon-Bozek had an emergency c-section after being hit and her newborn baby died a week later.

Justice Jonathon George said the sentence does not represent the value of the lives lost but that sending Burger to jail doesn’t help the public interest.
