Syrian refugee motion presented at Kitchener Council meeting

A motion for our country to admit more Syrian refugees.
Kitchener City Councillor Yvonne Fernandez will present the motion to council tonight.
She considered the wording carefully saying she wanted to put forth a motion more practical than emotional.
The motion reads:
“Kitchener has a long track record of providing assistance in times of international crisis.
Therefore, be it resolved that the Government of Canada be urged to increase the number of refugees being admitted to this country.”
“We have to make sure these people are integrated into our community, says Fernandez. “There are implications on the school levels as students who don’t have English as a second language and some children who have lived in horrific situations.”
Councillor Fernandez is also asking for a $5,000 donation to the Mennonite Central Committee’s S.O.S for Syria Campaign to assist people displaced by the war.
Kitchener is just one of many municipalities putting pressure on the federal government to offer more assistance in this crisis.
