U-W student suffers second degree burns in fire

A University of Waterloo student is being treated for second degree burns after a fire at a university townhouse complex.

Fire officials say the woman was injured carrying a pot of oil out of the townhouse at 350 Columbia Street West
Tuesday night. The pot was left unattended on the stove.

No word on a damage estimate yet.

Waterloo Fire Rescue is reminding residents to always stay in the kitchen when cooking and never carry a pot with hot oil outside.
