10:00 – Plane Crash

German officials say they have found evidence that the co-pilot of the plane that crashed in the French Alps appears to have hidden evidence of an illness from his employers. Investigators have seized medical documents from the home of Andreas Lubitz and found torn-up sick notes for the day of the crash — but there was no suicide note or evidence of any political or religious motivation for his actions. Investigators believe Lubitz intentionally crashed the plane into a mountainside after locking the pilot outside the cockpit. All 150 people on board were killed. Transport Minister Lisa Raitt announced yesterday that two crew members must be in the flight deck at all times to ensure the security of Canadian passengers. (Some experts are even calling for 3 pilots to be in cockpit at all time.) It was a change in policy for Air Canada – we have a statement from them to read after the break…but first, Air Transat pilot Hans Juergensen joins us again to comment on the policy change.

10:30 – State of our city/Centre in the square

Kitchener’s new mayor delivered his first state of our city address this morning – he touched on the recent budget, updated the city’s progress and outlined his vision for the future. He will also discuss the future of Centre in the Square – as council considers a report on Monday – calling for a new mandate. A review was ordered in the summer, following an operating deficit. That, combined with high repair costs are expected to cost about 7 million dollars over the next four year.
