KidsAbility launches two new initiatives

Minister of Children & Youth Services,Tracy MacCharles and KidsAbility are celebrating the province’s investment in the lives of children and youth with special needs.
Last August, the province committed an annual boost of just over $310,000 to help KidsAbility and its programs.
The Waterloo KidsAbility Centre surprised staff, volunteers, children and families with a brand new Smilezone, one of five in Ontario.
Deirdre Large has been taking her son Graydon to the local KidsAbility centre for years, she says the Smilezone is just a great addition to the centre.
“The parents coming in here, this is where we come, this is where we sit and wait when our children are having therapy and its really important to have a great space like this and to have the kids happy so they’re not scared or worried about whats going to happen to them.”
Last year over 5,800 children and youth benefited from therapy and support services at sites across Waterloo Region and Guelph-Wellington.
KidsAbility is also introducing a new program called SKIP.
The School Kids Intervention Program will take approximately 140 children between four and five off waiting lists, and offer skills and support they need to be successful.
