11:00 – Brenda Halloran and Michael Wekerle; CEO & Founder, W-I-N
Star power and big names heading up a new local network. Last week it was announced that former Waterloo Mayor, Brenda Halloran would become the new CEO of Waterloo Innovation Network. Waterloo Innovation Network, also known as WIN, is a network to encourage the continued growth of start-up tech companies in the region. The network was started by Michael Wekerle, one of the cast members on CBC’s show “Dragon’s Den.” Dragon’s Den auditions are underway between February 7th – March 28th – in Waterloo March 6th.
11:30 – Aboriginal Chooses to Opt out of Chemo and Dies

11-year-old Makayla Sault, (Salt) the Aboriginal girl from New Credit passed away on Monday, after suffering a stroke on Sunday. You may remember this story…as the case sparked a debate about the validity of indigenous medicine, and the rights of children to choose how they want to be treated. In May, she decided to quit chemotherapy after 11 weeks (said she had a vision of Jesus, who said she was healed) in favour of traditional healing and aboriginal medicine. Children’s Aid Society decided not to intervene after a brief investigation. While her family says she died due to complications from previous chemotherapy, a doctor who testified at a similar case of a First Nations girl refusing cancer treatment – said that Makayla had suffered a relapse. Dr. Ken Coates, whose area of expertise includes Aboriginal Rights joins us to discuss.
