OPP and MTO work together to keep roads safe this Winter

This year, the OPP and the Ministry of Transportation are working together to keep the roads as safe as possible this winter.

There was over 30-thousand collisions last year on roads patrolled by Ontario Provincial Police.

OPP officials say most people blame accidents on the wrong reasons.

“A lot of people say these collisions happen because of the poor roads” says OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt. “I think that our message is that these collisions are happening because people are making unwise decisions. They’re going too fast, they’re following too close, they’re too much in a hurry.”

A message drivers can expect to hear often is to adjust their speed and slow down when there is poor visiblity or road conditions, especially when driving past emergency vehicles.
