Yesterday, the first phase of a multi-phased program to replace door-to-door mail delivery with a community mailbox system over the next five years underway. Canada Post stopped home delivery for about 75,000 customers yesterday – includes west end Ottawa. Customers will now get mail from their local community mailbox. The change will eliminate thousands of jobs, which the postal service says is necessary to remain financially viable. According to Canada Post Canadians mailed almost 1.2 billion fewer items in 2013 than they did in 2006.
10:30- 1 soldier dead, 1 injured after being rundown by “radicalized” suspect

One of two Canadian soldiers mowed down by a motorist in southeast Montreal yesterday has died of his injuries. Quebec provincial police confirm the military member passed away this morning. Two soldiers were injured when a motorist drove his car into them in a Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu parking lot — in an incident one M-P cited in the Commons as a “possible terror attack.” The attack sparked a police chase that led to the suspect’s vehicle rolling over and then police fatally shooting him. The Prime Minister’s Office and the Mounties say the suspect was known to authorities and had become “radicalized.
