EQAO results show students excel in math at Waterloo catholic schools

Students are excelling in math at schools in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results released today show that students in Grade Nine Applied Mathematics are outpacing the province by 12%. Overall that’s an improvement of 17.4% from the year previous. They also saw 1.6% improvement for the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.
“We’re very happy with the results” says David DeSantis, Superintendent of Learning with the board. “Our long-term goal is to have a positive trend line. And by that I mean progressing and interest in a continuous improvement moving forward.”
Students in the Waterloo Region District School Board also met the provincial average for Grade Nine Math, and Grade Ten literacy.
“The Waterloo Region District School Board is pleased to see the continued efforts of our staff and students being rewarded with the recent results from the 2014 OSSLT” says Scott Miller, Assistant to the Superintendent of Learning Services.
Results for students in the WRDSB taking the applied math assessment remain unchanged from 2013, with 44% achieving at levels 3 and 4. Results for academic math decreased one percentage point from 2013, with 83% of students achieving at levels 3 and 4.
