Out of the Cold loses another host site

A third program has opted out of the Out of the Cold program in Waterloo Region.
Trinity United Church announced today that it would no longer participate in the program on Monday nights.
The program provides overnight shelter and hot meals to homeless people between the months of November and April.
“Taking into consideration the need for ongoing assisted housing in various forms whether it’s supportive housing, or other forms of housing, that will also assist in eliminating the homeless problem in the region.” says Reverend Tina Cote.
“We don’t think we’re setting anything back” adds Cote. “The consultation process that we’ve been doing for over six months has indicated to us that there is indeed sufficient capacity in the current emergency shelter system that’s being provided.”
The church says they’re shifting their efforts to support the ‘homeless to housing’ initiative in Waterloo Region.
This past week, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo announced they were dropping out. Earlier this year, Ray of Hope announced that they would no longer participate by providing a site on Tuesday nights.
