1:00- Ivan Lukianchuk, Inventor of “This Is Your Out”
The TIYO (tee-yo) is a device that helps you escape these situations. One press of the button and seconds later you get a phone call (a real phone call). It’s really that simple! People respect “The Important/Emergency Call” because it can happen to anyone at any time. It’s what many of us used to justify getting our first mobile phone, whether we did the buying or begging to our parents. Take control of this gift with the TIYO. Getting a call at the right time is one thing, but being able to sell it as a realistic sounding call is another, especially when under panic or stress. We let you customize the caller ID so you can easily point to your phone and say “oh look it’s my boss, it must be important”. Since it’s a real phone call, you’re probably going to have to talk out loud and the other party will most likely be listening. We made it easier for you by having someone speak on the other end of the line, telling you exactly what to say. We’ve got a bunch of different scripts to pick from.

1:30- Patti Brooks, Vice Chair & Marketing Director of the UpTown Waterloo Jazz Festival
The Festival grew out of an initiative of the UpTown Waterloo Business Improvement Area, which initially saw a few musicians playing on the street in front of a number of stores on King Street. Through the past 21 seasons the Festival has expanded to encompass a diverse line up of Jazz music and grown into a 3 day event with 2 stages while maintaining its commitment to be a free festival that the whole community can enjoy. The SLFUWJF is 100% volunteer organized. The Festival would not be the success that it is today if it were not for the 100 plus volunteers that give their time and effort over this 3 day event. Entering into the 22nd Sun Life Financial UpTown Waterloo Jazz Festival we celebrate the longevity of the Festival and take pride in the success and meaningful impact it has had in our community as one of the premiere festivals within Waterloo Region.
