Captain Canuck returns!

After a thirty-year hiatus, and just in time for Canada Day, Captain Canuck is back in the first of an annual Canada Day edition!
Richard Comely, co-creator of the comic book hero, tells 570 News he designed the character to be different than the typical super-hero. “So, he doesn’t have a ton of super powers. He’s a mountie and he’s also a scout leader and I wanted my Captain Canuck to be your very typical good guy.”
Comely says the new release is the first of an annual Canada Day edition. “We’re going to refer to it more as a summer special because Canada Day is only one day and we want people to enjoy it all summer, so next year we’re still going to aim for a Canada Day release.”
He says he and his cartoonist partner spent nearly two years defining Captain Canuck, before publishing the first edition in 1975. (It disappeared in 1984 after 14 issues). “We would get together and he said ‘there should be a Canadian super-hero and there should be a Canadian comic book series starring a Canadian super-hero’, and then I started to get serious about it.”
The first annual Canada Day edition of Captain Canuck has been released at librairies and comic book stores across the country.
