For the first time in its history, the Ontario Provincial Police Association (OPPA) launched two-fifteen second ads in connection with the upcoming Provincial Election. Both ads end with a simple message – We’re here for you. Who’s Tim Hudak here for? – “For the first time in the sixty year history of the OPPA, Tim Hudak has given us no choice but to engage in a publicity campaign during an election”, said Jim Christie, President, OPPA. “A Tim Hudak led government would launch a direct assault on the Collective Agreements of Police Associations right across the Province. His positions on arbitration, public sector pensions and further wage freezes, among others issues, are unacceptable to our members who put their lives on the line for their communities every day. Let me be clear. These ads do not serve as an endorsement for the Liberals or the NDP.”

Temporary Foreign Worker program: fine for older Canadians, bigger problem for young & unemployed. Overall, Canadians split on support for Temporary Foreign Workers Program. A new survey from Angus Reid Global shows slightly more Canadians oppose than support Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker program (TFWP), but opinion on the subject is essentially split. The online survey of Canadian adults reveals 38 per cent are opposed to the program, while 30 per cent are in favour and the rest (32%) say they don’t have an opinion one way or the other. Attitudes harden among specific demographics: older Canadians are more inclined to see benefit in the program, while younger Canadians and those who are unemployed and looking for work are soured on the idea of having foreign workers come in temporarily to fill jobs.
