Ennio Renon, restaurant founder, dies at age 82

Friends and family are mourning the loss of prominent restaurant founder, Ennio Renon. Renon died unexpectedly at the age of 82 this past Wednesday.

Renon founded Ennio’s back in 1994 with his daughter, Annabella. He expanded the business to two restaurants, one in Kitchener and the other in Waterloo.

The family man was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

“Ennio was an emotional Italian. He would hug. He would kiss on the cheek. He was just a warm individual” says Raymond Song, junior executive chef at Ennios. “Ennio and I had a routine every day where I would come in, and he would be sitting at the bar with his Egg McMuffins and his papers. We would talk for about forty-five minutes to an hour every single day. What I got out of it was that he would do anything for his family.”

Renon mentored Song for nearly a decade, and he believes Renon was one of the warmest people he knew.

“He taught me, don’t cook angry, for one. He taught me, staff is the most important thing about the business” says Song. “Ennio was the type of man that would do anything for anybody else.”

A visitation will take place at the Henry Walser Funeral Home on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Parish on Monday, April 14th, 2014 at 10 a.m.

Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
