LRT project could face possible legal action

A vocal opponent of LRT is threatening legal action.
Jay Aissa says Regional Chairman Ken Seiling was served by his group’s legal council during yesterday’s meeting with a notice of their intent to commence legal proceedings.
The group, Stop.LRT, wants an injunction to halt the project until after this fall’s municipal elections.
It maintains the project violates the Ontario Planning Act.
Aissa says “The proposed LRT does not confirm to, and is contrary to Section 24 of the Planning Act, Ontario.”
He adds, “This section of the Planning Act prohibits the undertaking of a public work that does not conform to an official plan in effect in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo.”
He also warns, “This is just the beginning of a coordinated effort to stop the career politicians on Regional Council from forcing decisions on the LRT before election-day.”
