Kitchener ranked 22nd in annual Local Government Performance Index

Good news for those living in Kitchener.
The Annual Local Government Performance Index has been released and Kitchener is one of the most improved cities in the country.
The Index ranks the top 100 Canadian cities based on their financial transparency and performance over the 2012 financial year.
In 2011, Kitchener was sitting in 95th spot but has jumped to 22nd this time around.
Peter McCaffrey, Policy Analyst and LGPI Coordinator with the Frontier Centre, was a guest on 570’s Gary Doyle show and explains why Kitchener made that jump.
“The top one hundred cities across the country, across a range of different variables, whether that be the timeliness of getting the reports out or the clear breakdown of finances into easy to understand categories, or perhaps extra commentary and details that are provided to explain those numbers. The big change was saw in Kitchener were around those details.”
Edmonton, Markham and Mississauga are at the top of the list while Cambridge remained at 93rd place for the second year in a row, Guelph is in 41st spot, and Waterloo dropped to 47th place from 31st in 2011.
