Ice storm cleanup continues in Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region is still recovering — and cleaning up — after last month’s ice storm that ripped through much of Southern Ontario.
In Cambridge, crews still need to attend to about 2-thousand locations. So far, about 10-20 per cent of their clean-up has been completed.
Manager of Forestry and Horticulture for the City of Cambridge, Brian Geerts says issues are dealt with on a priority basis.
Initially, following the December 22nd storm, crews focused on main streets, sidewalks and emergency situations.
Geerts says they’ve utilized all staff the best they can, and tells 570 News that weather conditions can slow clean-up operations.
He reminds residents that they’re working as hard and fast as possible and says ‘we were hit with a years’ worth of work in one day.’
It’s still too soon for the City of Cambridge to release the total cost of the clean-up. Kitchener and Waterloo have also yet to release any figures.
Still no word on if Waterloo Region will ask for financial assistance from the Provincial Government.
