Environment Canada has the Waterloo Region under another special weather statement, this time because of the big melt. The weather authority warns the mild temperatures and strong winds of up to 30km/h will help to melt all ice off of trees, buildings, and other structures.
Early in the melting period in cities, any ice clinging to large structures and trees will fall, bringing large chunks or sheets of ice down posing a risk for pedestrians.
This could cause new sporadic power outages in hard-hit areas, but also help hydro crews restorations with the milder temperatures.
The cold returns on Monday, starting at minus 9 and dipping to minus 12 by Tuesday.
