Recommendation to keep flight path as is

It seems residents made plenty of noise regarding a proposed flight path
change for commercial airplanes heading in and out of the Region of Waterloo International Airport.
The airport was considering sending the planes over the Homer Watson/401 and Blair area.
But, due to the overwhelming opposition from residents, airport staff are recommending no changes be made. Final approval is expected at a meeting
on November 14th.
The region received over 150 comments, almost 120 of those were considered negative. Some of the concerns raised included moving a Kitchener-Waterloo problem to Cambridge and that future developments were not considered in the proposal.
“We heard very loud and clear from many different communities…they don’t want this and there’s quite organized support against it, actually.” said Chris Wood, Airport General Manager.
He says given the negative feedback it’s unlikely Transport Canada would have approved the change.
Wood says the airport will start working on a master plan later this year or early 2014. That could include a extending a runway which would get planes in the air quicker, meaning less noise over Kitchener.
