Raw sewage enters Grand River in Waterloo

A power failure is blamed for a significant spillage of raw sewage into the Grand River in Waterloo.
It happened yesterday morning at a pumping station in the area of Bridge Street and Lexington Road.
CTV News reports about 860,000 litres of raw sewage leaked into the river after a transfer switch failed to work properly.
The Mannheim water intake was closed for two hours to allow the sewage to bypass the region’s water supply and Brantford will do the same today as it makes its way down river.
The region says the sewage will dilute rapidly as it makes its way down river.
CTV also reports residents of two homes near the pumping station reported water in the basements.
The Ministry of the Environment has been notified.
