Elections Canada introduces new Kitchener South-Hespeler riding

Elections Canada is introducing new electoral federal boundaries, which include 15 new ridings as well.
One of those ridings will be Kitchener South-Hespeler, a controversial plan for local politicians.
Cambridge Ward One Councillor Donna Reid is disappointed with the decision, saying she is from Cambridge and does not want to be voting in Kitchener.
Reid is concerned that the member of parliament elected would represent Kitchener more than Hespeler.
Meanwhile current Cambridge MP Gary Goodyear is also upset with the loss of Hespeler to a new riding.
Goodyear says he fought to keep the town within his boundaries, but the commission’s decision was based on lowering population numbers in each riding.
He says he will continue to rally for Cambridge and North Dumfries in Ottawa, and if re-elected will work with the new MP for Hespeler.
The only other change in the area is renaming the Kitchener-Waterloo riding to simply “Waterloo”.
This riding will include the city of Waterloo, and a handful of residents in northern Kitchener.
Elections Canada says the changes will be official this fall.
