There’s plenty of playoff history between the Kitchener Rangers and Plymouth
Whalers.
You can just look back to last year, when the Whalers put Kitchener out in seven games in the first round.
The voice of the Kitchener Rangers on 570 News, Don Cameron says the Rangers seemed nervous in that one.
In 2003, Kitchener knocked the Whalers out in seven in the West Final, went on to win the OHL Championship and then roll undefeated through the Memorial Cup in Quebec City.
Pete DeBoer and current General Manager and Head Coach, Steve Spott also used to work for the Whalers organization.
Cameron says in order for the Rangers to have success in this series they will have to be cautious in the neutral zone and keep things tidy in their own end.
He says they will also need scoring from their depth players.
“The Rangers are quite capable of playing well on the road…They need a win a Plymouth somewhere along the line, may be they can get it in the first game.” added Cameron.
Kitchener played the Whalers well in Plymouth during the regular season resulting in a 6-5 win and 4-3 loss.
Game one is tonight in Michigan with the pre-game show on 570 News at 6:30pm.
However, the Rangers will be without some heavy artillery. Radek Faksa is not going to play tonight.
He’s recovering from a hit to the head and a concussion that followed from Game 4 in Owen Sound, last Wednesday.
