3rd annual TEDxWaterloo event is on

The largest TEDx event in North America is underway at the Centre in the Square.
TEDxWaterloo brings together some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers. This year’s theme is DIS CONNECTED, which examines the way humans connect and disconnect with the world and the people around them.
The event mixes technology with entertainment and design ideas from around the world.
Each of the dozen speakers and performers has under 20 minutes.
The first was Waterloo native and graphic novelist Scott Chantler. He talked about comics as a visual language. “Comics, of course, are not just about single images, no matter how expressive they might be. They’re about narrative which inevitably means putting two images next to each other.”
Playwright Shannon Blake talked about artist-community interdependence.
Another of the speakers, was Mathew Ho, a grade twelve student who was one of the teens to send a Lego man into space and videotape it. He said, “I’ve never fully understood the reason to why people use the phrase, ‘I can’t.’ I mean, saying, ‘I won’t’ is perfectly reasonably but ‘I can’t’ is just plain ridiculous.”
