Rangers represented at Under 17

Once again, there’s a Kitchener Rangers connection to this year’s World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
Rangers assistant coach Troy Smith will be the head coach of the Ontario team which includes Rangers rookie Brent Pederson.
The tournament opens Thursday in Windsor.
Ontario will play Germany in its’ first game.
This is Smith’s fourth year helping out with Team Ontario, first as head coach.
Smith tells 570 News it gives players a chance to play with guys in their own age group.
“You really don’t have to look any further than Jeff Skinner who had 7 or 8 points at the tournament…came back to the Rangers and scored 20 or 22 goals in the second half.” said Smith
“Might get some more opportunities playing with younger guys.” said Pederson, a first round draft pick of the Rangers in the spring.
Rangers defenceman Jared Gilbert was also listed as an alternate for Team Ontario, but it’s not clear yet if he will play.
