Random Act of Kindness Day

If someone opens the door for you or lets you merge easier on the highway, maybe it’s because today is Random Act of Kindness Day.

CEO of the Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation Rosemary Smith told 570 News what it’s all about, “it’s really based on the pay it forward philosophy, so if you also happen to be a recipient of an act of kindness, stop for a moment and think how you might pass that on to someone else.”

Smith said it’s about the “little things,” that you may not even recognize at the time, “that make a difference in someone’s life.”

“We’re asking as a community to slow down and pay attention to those people around us who may need an encouraging word, a kind gesture or just a word of thanks.” said Smith

The kick off to the event is at 7:00 this morning (Friday) at Conestoga Mall, with coffee and speeches from community leaders, all intended to energize the participants to bring kindness into the community.

Smith believes the kindness of today could spread into every day of the year, “if people have a chance to make a concerted effort on one day, they’ll enjoy it so much they will build it into their every day practice.”
