It’s been almost six months since Japan was rocked by a massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami – an event that had repercussions felt around the world, including in Waterloo Region.
Some sense of normalcy will return here this month as Toyota resumes normal production at its
Cambridge plant as well as at its operations in Woodstock.
The disaster overseas seriously hindered parts suppliers which meant a slowdown in production at many North American Toyota plants.
Hours were reduced and there were some shutdowns.
Toyota Canada’s Pat Clement confirms to 570 News “full production will return in September” and there is actually some scheduled overtime as well.
Some lines recovered faster than others.
For example, the Corolla and Matrix lines in Cambridge were back to normal in June, but parts shortages hobbled the Lexus RX350 line in Cambridge as well as the RAV4 cross-over, which is assembled in Woodstock.
Those shortages have been rectified, so it is business as usual for both operations and their 6,000 employees beginning today.
