Mike Kirkup is stepping down as head of developer relations at Research in Motion.
The University of Waterloo graduate announced in his personal blog on Tuesday that he was leaving the company.
Kirkup says a lot has changed in the industry including Google’s $12.5 Billion bid for Motorola, the shut down of Web OS by Hewlett-Packard and most recently the resignation of Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
Kirkup says now is a good time to take a step back and consider his next steps. He has been with the company since 2001.
While RIM’s shares rose 1 percent early today, overall, shares are down about 50 percent since the start of the year.
