C. diff may have contributed to another death

C. difficile may have been a contributing factor in the death of an elderly patient over the weekend at Guelph General Hospital.

Three other deaths have been linked to the infection.

An outbreak was declared on July 5th.

Hospital officials also say one new hospital-acquired case has been identified since Friday.

Seven patients at Guelph General currently have C. difficile.

Another C. difficile death was also reported yesterday at St. Catharines General Hospital.

There have been at least 24 deaths in Ontario since the end of May.
