June jobless numbers

The Canadian economy created 28,000 jobs in June, the third consecutive month of growth.

Statistics Canada says the country’s unemployment rate held steady last month at 7.4 per cent as the number of people entering the workforce increased.

Increases in the public and private sectors were offset by fewer people who were self employed.

The gains were led by the transportation and warehousing sector which saw a gain of 15,000 jobs.

Ontario, Alberta and Nova Scotia all posted job gains in June, while Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador saw losses.

In Waterloo Region, the jobless rate fell to 6.9% in June, from 7.3% in May.
