Buy Mob in Guelph

It wasn’t quite a Flash Mob but some merchants in downtown Guelph probably appreciated it all the same.

About 30 people took to Carden Street in what is being called a “Buy Mob”.  Vendors there have been suffering from several construction projects over the past few years that have blocked off most vehicular traffic.

Guelph mortgage broker Rob Campbell says he has no vested interest in the businesses on Carden street but can sympathize with their struggles all the same.

He organized the “Buy Mob” to assist fellow entrepreneurs who have seen a decline in business. He says it’s similar to a “flash mob,” where people use social networking to organize a massive dance routine.

In this case, Campbell used Twitter to encourage local residents to show up on Carden with some cash to spend.

The event drew mainly young professionals.
