Former astronaut joins Com Dev

A Cambridge-based tech company has landed the first Canadian woman in space as a member of its board. Com Dev International has announced the appointment of Roberta Bondar.

Chair Terry Reidel says she’ll be a great asset because, “She knows our business, she knows what we do in space and how we try to do it and she is going to add a tremendous amount of intellectual power and strategic thinking to our board.”

Bondar was a payload specialist on the space shuttle Discovery in 1992. She was one of the original six astronauts in the Canadian space program.

Reidel says Bondar is not the first astronaut to join Com Dev’s board. He says Jim Adamson, who has been in space twice, is also a member.

Com Dev is a global provider of space hardware and services.
