Even though the Victoria Day long weekend is still a week away, most Ontario provincial parks have opened today.
Greg Wake, of Ontario Parks, tells 570 News that alcohol is banned in 44 provincial parks from today until the end of Victoria Day. The ban, first instituted 33 years ago, is intended to ensure a positive camping experience for families.
Wake says when it comes to booking a site in some of the more desirable settings, it is best to act early – one may book a site up to five months in advance.
To book a provincial campsite, go to ontarioparks.com. All eight conservation areas operated by the Grand River Conservation Authority that offer camping have been open since late last month.
