Large turnout for election advance polls

HALIFAX, NS – It appears Canadians are getting out to vote.

Advance polls were held on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Karen Janigan of Elections Canada says voters came out in droves – especially in this part of the country.

“The Maritimes seems to be leading the pack as far as the jump in attendance at advance polls,” notes Janigan.

Preliminary figures show that over 9200 people voted in the Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe riding.

In the riding of Beausejour, there were over over 9100 voters.

Across the country, more than two million people have already cast their ballots in advance of next Monday’s federal election – that’s up 34.5 per cent over the last election in 2008.
