Tee it up!

If there’s an unofficial start time to golfing season in Waterloo Region, it was 8:00 o’clock this morning.

That’s when the City of Kitchener opened up the Rockway Golf Course at the foot of Charles Street.

Todd Doering is the Golf Course Superintendent for both Rockway and Doon, and says both courses came through the winter as well as he’s ever seen, thanks to a constant snow cover, and little ground frost to block melting run-off water from going through the soil.

Doering is one of the people 570’s Mark Douglas talked to on Friday morning at Rockway.

Rockway opened at 8:00 a.m. today, while the Doon course, near Conestoga College opens tomorrow morning.

Doering says Doon’s new expansion includes a 9-hole pitch-and-putt course and new golf academy for beginners.

The pro shops at both courses are now open and accepting tee time bookings, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To book a tee time at Rockway, call 519-741-2949; to book a tee time at Doon Valley, call 519-741-2939.
