Today is April Fool’s Day, so make sure you are on the lookout for questionable stories and outlandish ideas from anywhere – including family, friends, strangers and of of course in today’s era of social media – don’t forget the internet.
Pranks and hoaxes will be all over the world wide web and it looks like Google has already gotten in on the act.
The massive internet company has released a video detailing what they call “Gmail motion.”
The software supposedly uses motion detection technology to do everything from writing emails to deleting them using hand motions in front of a webcam.
At the end of the video, the viewer is directed to a link that reads “April Fools: Gmail motion doesn’t actually exist…at least not yet.”
WestJet airlines wasted no time in marking April Fool’s Day.
Early this morning, Canada’s second biggest airline issued a joke news release outlining its plan to cut fuel consumption by up to four per cent.
WestJet joked that effective today, it will reduce the weight of its aircraft by mixing lighter-than-air helium into the ventilation system.
And provided the joke is not incredibly embarrassing, science says April Fool’s is good for you.
Dr. Vivienne Halpern, vascular surgeon says it’s simple.
“…laughter increases blood flow, reduces stress and reduces high blood pressure.”
A hearty laugh on April Fool’s Day – or any day in April – celebrates national stress awareness month.
It’s just what the doctor ordered.
